BeppoSAX spectroscopy of the luminous X - ray sources in M 33

چکیده
The nearby galaxy M33 was observed by the imaging X-ray instruments on-board BeppoSAX. Two observations at different phases of the 105.9 day intensity cycle of the luminous central source X-8 failed to reveal the expected modulation, suggesting that it is probably transitory. Similar behavior has been observed from several X-ray binary sources. This strengthens somewhat the idea that M33 X-8 is a black hole accreting from a binary companion. The 0.2–10 keV spectrum of M33 X-8 can best be modeled by an absorbed power-law with a photon index, α, of 1.89 ± 0.40 0.79 and a disk-blackbody with a temperature, kT, of 1.10 ± 0.05 keV and a projected inner-disk radius of 55.4 ± 6.0 7.7 km. This spectral shape is in good agreement with earlier ASCA results. The 2–10 keV spectra of M33 X-4, X-5, X-7, X-9 and X-10 are all consistent with power-law or bremsstrahlung models, whilst that of X-6 appears to be significantly more complex and may be reasonably well modeled with a disk-blackbody with kT = 1.7 ± 0.2 keV and a projected inner-disk radius of 7 ± 2 km. The spectrum of M33 X-9 is rather hard with α = 1.3. Compared to earlier Einstein and ROSAT observations, M33 X-7 and X-9 varied in intensity, M33 X-4, X-6, and X-10 may have varied and M33 X-5 remained constant.

Observations of the Nucleus of M 33
The nearby galaxy M33 hosts the most luminous steady X-ray source in the Local Group. The high spatial resolution of Chandra allows us to confirm that this ultra-luminous X-ray source is within the nucleus and rule out at the 4.6σ level a previously proposed possible counterpart located 1 away. The X-ray spectrum is well fitted by a disc blackbody with kTin=1.18±0.02 keV and Rin(cos θ)=57±3 km,...

Results of a 2001 March 17–20 BeppoSAX observation of the X-ray binary XB 1832−330 located in the globular cluster NGC 6652 are presented. In contrast to the majority of luminous globular cluster X-ray sources, the (0.1–200 keV) BeppoSAX spectrum cannot be fit with a disk-blackbody and comptt Comptonization model, unless partial covering is included. This confirms the ASCA detection of partial ...
متن کاملThe hard X-ray emission of luminous infrared galaxies
We present a study of the hard X-ray properties of a sample that includes all the Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIGs, LIR > 1011 L ) observed in the 2-10 keV energy band (new and archival data). We find that a significant fraction of the sources optically classified as AGNs do not show any indication of nuclear activity in the X rays, thus suggesting heavy absorption along our line of sight. The ...

We present results from a BeppoSAX observation of the broad absorption line (BAL) QSO CSO 755, which was observed as part of our program to investigate the X-ray properties of highly polarized BAL QSOs. CSO 755 is clearly detected by the BeppoSAX Medium-Energy Concentrator Spectrometers, making it the highest redshift (z=2.88) and most optically luminous (MV=-27.4) BAL QSO seen in X-rays. It is...
